Sample Timetable

I've tried to follow our usual school routine as much as possible below! Please email if you have any queries!!
notes:
On Wednesday we do Gaeilge Stations, so it might be nice to do a couple of different Gaeilge activities together, e.g. Bua na Cainte, Cód na Gaeilge, watch some TG4.

Thursday is PE day and so you might like to swap out playtime for some outdoor activities or a long walk/cycle with the family.

Friday is our STEM station day! This could involve some Lego, a Maths worksheet or game, baking or one of the many online science experiments and doing our typing club!

Morning
Get some fresh air-play outside, do some exercise etc. If it’s raining do some yoga or a dance inside.

Calendar: we do this every day in school and it might be nice to continue it. Go through the date (https://www.starfall.com/h/holiday/calendar/?t=289541668), day of the week (yesterday, today and tomorrow, can be done as Gaeilge with 1st Class) and then ask them ‘Conas atá an aimsir?’ for some sentences about the weather!

English:
·         Read books, or online versions on Get Epic or BorrowBox. 1st Class can do some comprehensions from twinkl.
·         Online games (some examples below)
Juniors and Seniors
Ø  Teach your Monster to Read
Ø  abcya.com (sight word bingo game, games from pre-k or k category)
1st Class
Ø  abcya.com (games from Grade 1 category)

·         Writing-informal writing should be encouraged. Handwriting sheets from twinkl might be useful.

·         Creative Writing: enter our story writing competition, create a comic strip, draw and label a picture…

·         Oral Language: use the ‘Sock Puppets’ app to retell your story or a story you know from a book. WriteReader.com is a free book creator online. Make a movie or a puppet show.

Afternoon
This is when we usually do Aistear. Play is extremely important for learning. This could be a nice time for the lego challenge, creating a puppet show, doing a project, and simply playing with their toys. Art would also fit in here, e.g. mother’s day cards, drawing videos on youtube, junk art constructions, drawing, painting etc.

Ask them to plan their playtime, give them a theme (e.g. opticians, florists, bakery, shop, doctors etc.) and afterwards they could write or draw what they did to make a playtime journal (which would be a great project!). The children might like to pick an activity for each day at the start of the week (e.g. Monday-toys, Tuesday-art, Wednesday-puppet show, Thursday-lego).

Project work:  For the Junior Room, this could be something they make out of playdough, some scissor cutting skills, picture and neat colouring, procedural writing on how to do something (e.g. play football, a recipe for something you have baked together, how to make playdough etc.) or a project they research and create themselves on a topic they are interested in, e.g. cats or ducks…

Gaeilge: See online activities and games mentioned on main blog.

Maths: Lots of online games, worksheets and games on twinkl and opportunities to use play to work on mathematical concepts, e.g. how many ways can you sort 6, 7, 8, etc teddies? helping with baking. tidying their toys involves making sets. using money in a pretend shop. making pictures using shapes...

Baking is a great way to cover Maths, SESE, SPHE and English. The children can write recipes themselves or draw the different steps too.

The children will need breaks between activities, e.g. stretching, running outside, walks, helping around the house with cleaning, tidying up etc.

Please email on any pictures or work and I will upload them (you can let me know if you’d rather they don’t go up on the blog!)

Hope everyone is keeping well and taking care of themselves!
