Incy Wincy Spider

Nursery rhymes are important for so many reasons:

Last week we looked at The Incy Wincy Spider. We practiced rhyming, counting syllables, performing the rhyme, oral language and more!

While Juniors and Seniors did a cut and paste sequencing activity for the rhyme, 1st Class came up with this great version and made posters for it:

 Poor Incy!!!

Check out each pod performing the rhyme below

Dream Bedrooms

As well as being architects and builders, the children were also interior designers! Last week they had to imagine, design and begin gathering supplies to create their dream bedroom and then they were completed this week.

The creative ideas the children came up with were amazing! They had to problem-solve to work out how to make their plans come to life. Children who were out sick last week helped a friend to complete their bedroom, which provided opportunities for collaborative learning and compromising. As usual, the children exceeded expectations! Have a look at their work below, and watch the videos to hear about their rooms!

Houses and Homes Aistear

We have done lots of learning about different types of houses and homes, as well as about construction sites where these homes would be built. Through Aistear, the children are processing and consolidating what they have learned in real-life settings.

Station 1: Small-World play with doll house
Station 2: Plan, design and gather materials to create Dream Bedroom next week
Station 3: Role Play-'At Home'
Station 4: Construction Site-architects design the blueprints and then the builders use these to construct the homes.

There were lots of brilliant oral language opportunities, social skill development, examples of collaborative learning and imaginations at work!

Weather Station

The children in Juniors and Seniors were meteorologists and weather forecasters this week! There was a weather playdough station and an art station. The role-play station was busy. The meteorologist had to go outside and use instruments to measure the weather. We used wind socks, weather vanes, thermometers and a rain gauge. Then the children had to write reports and present the weather on the television. The construction station was fun because there were different weather scenario cards and the children worked together or by themselves to construct the story!

Farm Camp

We have been doing Farm Camp this week to prepare us for our new Aistear theme next week. Today we took a trip to SuperValu in Trim to find food for sale that comes from the farm! Josie in SuperValu and all of the staff took great care of us! We got to taste some chicken, turkey, fish, brown bread and butter and pizza! We saw duck eggs and eggs from hens. They brought us upstairs to the bakery and we saw the huge oven where the bread is made every day by the bakers who come in at 3a.m.! The bakers had made buns for everyone-yummy! We saw loads of things that came from the farm in the shop! Thanks again to Josie and the staff in SuperValu, and well done on winning Store of the Year again this year!

Aistear-The Space Station

Have a look at some of the learning done over the past two weeks, all about space! The children amazed me with the language they used and the creative thinking was out of this world...! We will be sorry to say goodbye to the rocket, but excited for starting a new theme next week!
