The Bakery

The children have been baking with Bernie all week, and today we set up our bakery in the classroom!
We had porridge bread, banana bread muffins and banana cookies for sale. The children learned about how butter was made in the past and we churned our own butter to put on our porridge bread too!

Easter Baking with Bernie

Juniors and Seniors had a fantastic time baking with Bernie today! They made some buns and decorated them to look like Easter and Spring animals. Thank you Bernie!!!

The recipe was from a book Bernie saw in our wonderful school library! We are so lucky to have such a well-stocked library with books covering loads of different topics, as well as great stories too! Thanks to the parents who look after it so well!

YUMMY!

Day 2

We had a busy day today! In the morning, everyone got a chance to go with Bernie to make some Rice Krispie Buns (many thanks to the Parents' Association for the chocolate donation!). Later on, we went to the school library. Every Friday the children will get two library books. Please send these in on Friday so that your child can swap them for two new books!

Maths Stations

Maths stations were a little bit different today! We are learning about weight at the minute so we did some fun and active learning today about it! There were two stations and everyone got a turn at each one.

One group stayed in the classroom and used the balance scales to measure and weigh objects in the room. We estimated and counted how many cubes it would take to balance the objects and recorded our work in the Senior Infant workbooks.

We counted out much treasure it would take to sink our pirate ship.

The other group went to the staff room with Bernie and did some baking! They put two eggs on the weighing scales and checked what weight they were. Then they had to measure the other ingredients to the same amount! It was very fun, and the buns they made were very yummy!

Fairy Tales and Castles

We have some very exciting news! A fairy has moved into our classroom!!! Her name is Sióg. We have been writing letters to her during English stations to let her know more about us. Bernie baked fairy cakes with the children and we also made fairy castles during playtime.

Because of Sióg we are going to learn about fairytales and castles during January! We began by looking at features of castles, such as a curtain wall, battlements, arrow slits, drawbridges etc. and then we went for walk down to Trim Castle to see if we could find these features. We did some sketching of the castle too.

The Gingerbread Man

We have been looking at The Gingerbread Man all week. After hearing the story we did a sequencing activity and built sentences during English stations. Bernie took groups during playtime down to the staff room to bake and decorate yummy gingerbread men.

The children worked with their Junior and Senior Infant partners to design, source materials and build gingerbread houses. They look amazing!!!
