Senior Room Games

While learning about electricity and magnetism, the children in the Senior Classroom designed and created games for us! They were kind enough to come into our room on Friday and do stations using these. The games were fun, interactive and very imaginative. Thank you very much to Mr. Larke and the pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th Class!

Capacity

We have been having lots of fun learning about capacity this week in school! Here is a video of one lesson. Ms. Keane was feeling very thirsty. Every group got two cups which looked like they could hold similar amounts of water. Which cup could hold more???

Each group got a basin of water. The other capacity resources, e.g. Jugs, small cups, tubs, etc., were all left out for the children to use too. Working together, the children had to prove which cup held the most.

Some groups filled each cup and checked how much they held using the measuring jug. Toby figured out that he could just fill up one, pour it into the other and see if it reached the top or overflowed! There was lots of cooperative learning, language development, problem solving...and very few spills!

The Travel Agents

We are busy planning our summer holidays in the Junior Room! Have a look at our travel agents role play area...

We are also going to do some art projects from around the world! This week we are making Chinese fans, including some Chinese writing!

There are some cut and paste and writing activities based on our story "Where in the World Shall We Go?" when Kieran and Niamh go to the travel agents.

In the building area the children are constructing famous landmarks from around the world. The boys built the Empire State Building in America today!

Maths-Number

Fun in the classroom revising numbers. The children had to work in pairs to find objects to make sets from 0 to 10. Being able to see what different numbers look like with real objects is really good for helping children with addition and number sense.

Travel Agents

Many thanks to Dempsey Travel and Insurance in the town for letting us visit yesterday! The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the boys and girls got loads of tips for our travel agent station for playtime next week!!!
