Reading!!!

The children in Junior Infants have been doing amazing work learning their new sounds and tricky words to get ready for reading and writing! All of the sounds we have done so far are in the soundbooks and we know the words a, and, I, the, to and me. It's fun to spot the words we know in this video at lunch time:

Seniors are also doing great work with their reading. Their Dolch List words are really important to help them read independently. 

Next week the children will be starting their Oxford Readers, which are graded books. On Monday and Wednesday the children will read their new book in school and bring it home for two nights. Please keep the readers in the homework folders. The children will also get a class reader in two weeks time. Before they bring home their reader they need to get used to the words in it. Every evening your child will have new words in their wordboxes. Please practice these every day with your child. This will be a big help to them when they start the class readers!

First Week

The children in Juniors and Seniors have been very busy this week learning about our school, practicing writing and recognising their names, getting used to some school routines, and most importantly, playing together and having fun! The best part of the week was making our Superhero Capes and making a big mess with the paint! We will use our capes as art aprons during the year to try and keep our uniform clean!

From next week on the children will be getting their homework folders to bring home. Each week your child's homework is stapled into their journals. We are waiting on the Spellbound books to arrive for Senior Infants, and they will be sent home when we get them next week! If there is ever any issue or confusion with your child's homework, please do not hesitate to say it to me and we can work it out.
