The Innocent Big Grow

The children in Juniors and Seniors are taking part in The Innocent Big Grow ( see https://innocentbiggrow.com/ for information and resources!) This aims to encourage children to grow and eat vegetables. We had plant-themed stations this afternoon.

Table 1: The children made posters showing the parts of a plant

Table 2: Planting seeds. Each child had two pots with compost disks and got to pick two plants to grow. There were tomato, cress and pea seeds!

Table 3: Plant life cycle cut and paste activity.

Table 4: Plants mindfulness colouring

Each week, two children will be our Veg Detectives. They will be in charge of watering the seeds and monitoring growth!

Dream Bedrooms

As well as being architects and builders, the children were also interior designers! Last week they had to imagine, design and begin gathering supplies to create their dream bedroom and then they were completed this week.

The creative ideas the children came up with were amazing! They had to problem-solve to work out how to make their plans come to life. Children who were out sick last week helped a friend to complete their bedroom, which provided opportunities for collaborative learning and compromising. As usual, the children exceeded expectations! Have a look at their work below, and watch the videos to hear about their rooms!

Tricky Words

Liam and Elisha made all of these tricky words today during English Stations! Everyone made a huge effort this morning at all of the different stations, well done!
We do different activities each day for our stations. This is what we did today:

Table 1: Phonics: we learned three ways to make the 'er' sound-er, ir, ur
Table 2: Tricky Words-practicing the words on our wall and building or writing different words
Table 3: Literacy through ICT (online games to reinforce learning)
Table 4: Fine Motor Skills-using new magnet boards

Easter Baking with Bernie

Juniors and Seniors had a fantastic time baking with Bernie today! They made some buns and decorated them to look like Easter and Spring animals. Thank you Bernie!!!

The recipe was from a book Bernie saw in our wonderful school library! We are so lucky to have such a well-stocked library with books covering loads of different topics, as well as great stories too! Thanks to the parents who look after it so well!

YUMMY!

Houses and Homes Aistear

We have done lots of learning about different types of houses and homes, as well as about construction sites where these homes would be built. Through Aistear, the children are processing and consolidating what they have learned in real-life settings.

Station 1: Small-World play with doll house
Station 2: Plan, design and gather materials to create Dream Bedroom next week
Station 3: Role Play-'At Home'
Station 4: Construction Site-architects design the blueprints and then the builders use these to construct the homes.

There were lots of brilliant oral language opportunities, social skill development, examples of collaborative learning and imaginations at work!
