Safe Pass
Fergal the builder gave us lots of ideas on how to improve our construction site for playtime. The most important thing we realised was that we needed to make it much safer. Everyone working on the construction site needed a Safe Pass. Fiachra has a background in this area, so he got into role and gave the classroom a talk about safety on the construction site...
Fantastic work Mr. Reilly!!!
After the talk we did an interactive game on the whiteboard where we looked for hazards on the construction site, and then everyone took a Safety Pass test. Congratulations to all of the Juniors and Seniors who passed their tests and got their Safety Pass for our construction site!

Special Visitor!!!
Today we had a very exciting visit in the Junior Classroom! Fergal, one of the construction workers building our new classroom, came in to talk to the children about the site! He taught us about safety on the site, why hard hats are different colours, different people you would see on the construction site, safe passes, and showed us some of the equipment you need to to wear as a builder, such as hard hats, high-vis jackets, ear muffs, goggles etc. The boys and girls all got to ask a question at the end and there were some excellent ones! Toby asked if he would have to wear goggles as well as his glasses on the building site, Izzac wanted to know more about jigsaws, Alfred wanted to know how fast could a digger go...well done everybody on your brilliant questions!
Fergal also brought in a high-vis for all of the children and some sweets! We're going to use the high-vis jackets for our Aistear construction site! Thank you so much! :)

Aistear
Last week all of the children got into role as architects and chose a building to design for our town. They created blueprints of their buildings and then used clay to make a model of it. Fiachra also brought in the blueprints of his new house and Mr Larke let us look at the blueprints of our new classroom!
This week for playtime we have a construction station and the children at this table are setting up a construction site and getting into role as builders!
Many thanks to all the children who brought in tools, hard hats, etc.!

Building Site
For May our theme is going to be the building site, taking inspiration from all the work going on for our new classroom! We began today by discussing what needs to happen before the builders can even get started. The children learned about architects and blueprints, and we decided everyone was going to plan, design and create their own building this week. We began the process today with a bit of research. In pairs, we went for a little walk around the town and noted the architecture on some buildings. If the children noticed anything they really liked, they drew it on their sheets to use for their own plan tomorrow! We're excited to continue on from today's work!!!
