Plants

Here are some pictures of the work we have been doing at playtime all about plants.

At one table, the boys and girls are planting seeds in yoghurt pots:

There are other children at the Florists. Here we are working on oral language and conversational skills, learning about those working in the local environment, exploring and using money and consolidating our learning about plants...

We also made packets of seeds to sell in our florists, with care instructions on the back! These had to be done with our best handwriting so that the customers could read all of the things a plant needs.

Spring has Sprung!

We have been very busy learning all about spring this month! First of all we learned about the different parts of a plant and what they do:

Then we looked at the things a plant needs to stay alive: water, soil, air, space and light. We used this video to help us learn the needs of a plant:

We have also been learning all about Florists and what they do. We went to visit Something Special Florists in Trim, where Mairead showed us how she makes bouquets and how they are ordered and delivered! She also showed us how to make the bows for the flowers and gave us some ribbon so that we could practice! You can have a look at the beautiful flowers they have here: http://www.somethingspecialflorist.ie/

We got lots of ideas to help us create a Florist shop in our classroom! Thank you so much to Something Special Florists in Trim :)
