An Nollaig

Bainimid an taitneamh as an chlár Gaeilge nua, Bua na Cainte. Éist le hamhráin nua a rinneamar don Nollaig:

Bualadh Bos
Ó bualadh bos, bualadh bos.
Buailimis go léir.
Tá Daidí na Nollag ag teacht anuas,
Anuas on simléar.
Ó bualadh bos, bualadh bos.
Buailimis go léir.
Tá Daidí na Nollag ag teacht anuas,
Anuas on simléar.

Daidí na Nollag
Tháinig Daidí na Nollag.
Ní fhaca mise é.
Fuair mé a lán bréagán.
Hip-hip-huré!

Seo é an Leanbh Íosa
Seo é an leanbh Íosa,
Sa mhainséar ina luí.
Tá Muire agus Íosaf
Agus aingeal ag guí.

Sneachta ar an talamh,
Is réaltaí sa spéir.
Is an leabh beag Íosa,
Ina luí sa mhainséar.

Sculpture

Today we explored sculptures in Visual Art! We began by talking about sculptures and the difference between 2D and 3D art. Then we looked at some examples of sculptures and noticed how they could be of absolutely anything. Teacher cut long and short strips of paper and we looked at three simple ways to manipulate paper; bending, rolling and folding. We gave each of the strips 'legs' and glued the 'feet' down so that they could stand up on the page. Then everyone made their own sculptures! It was amazing to see the different and creative ideas everyone had. There were so many other ways to fold, cut and use the paper to make really exciting 3D works of art!

At the end of the lesson everyone had made their own unique and individual work of art:

We decided to make an art gallery...on the ceiling!!!

The Restaurant

For November, we have been learning all about food. We have set up a restaurant in our classroom called An Bhialann, and spent last week making lots of different things for it, like menus, signs, ovens, flowers...we have been very busy!

Today we went to Java Juice on Haggard Street to learn about how their restaurant works! We got a great surprise when we saw they had sausages and juice and doughnuts for us too! They answered our questions and we got lots of information that we can bring to An Bhialann. They were very helpful and kind and made such an effort with us, so a massive thank you!!!

Have a look at these pictures of An Bhialann! We have waiters, customers, chefs and everyone gets involved!

Senior Infant Chefs!

Open for business!

Everyone is getting involved and working on oral language skills, writing orders, reading menus, and learning about people who work in our local community!

Here you can see the plates of food we made last week in art!

We have learnt two new Irish songs:

1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Is maith liom báinne is cupán tae!
Is maith liom úlla is ceaparie,
Brioscaí, criospaí is banana buí!

An  maith liom cáis?
An maith liom práta?
An maith liom arán?
An maith liom tráta?

Is maith liom cáis.
Is maith liom práta.
Is maith liom arán.
Is maith liom tráta.

Ní maith liom cáis.
Ní maith liom práta.
Ní maith liom arán.
Ní maith liom tráta.

Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

This week we made some scary monsters for Halloween. We used straws to blow watered down paint all over our pages. When they were dry we stuck on eyes and drew arms and legs and whatever else we wanted!

We have been learning a dán for Halloween too:

And here is everyone dressed up! Well done on the fantastic costumes :)

Have a great week off everyone!

Our Spooky Work!

Things are getting scary in the Junior and Senior Infant classroom!

We have made some spooky, foggy, haunted houses:

Then we made hand print spiders. We gave them 8 eyes, and made webs for them by lacing white wool over the paper plates.

We have a new visitor too! Try and think of a name for our ghost!

Library Trip

Trim Library very kindly invited us down today to take part in Yo-Yo Yoga Storytelling! The children were read three books. Each book had lots of different yoga poses to go with it, and the children in Junior and Senior Infants were very good at these! Then the children got under blankets for the final story and practised their breathing. It was a great way to mix exercise with reading, and made the stories so exciting for the children!
